Renée's Take · Jun 2026
I tested 9 sunscreens from 9 brands across 5 safety checks — including Active Ingredient Class and Mineral Particle Size (Nano vs Non-Nano). Every product was scored the same way — material safety first, then real-world performance and ease of use.
What I found: The top picks pass third-party safety verification and hold up in everyday use. The sunscreens I left off had unverified material claims, missing certifications, or hidden tradeoffs that matter for daily cooking.
Here's what came out on top:
The criteria R3 evaluates for every sunscreen
Active Ingredient Class, Mineral Particle Size (Nano vs Non-Nano), Fragrance-Free
Broad-Spectrum Labeled, UVA Protection Basis, SPF Value
Cosmetic Finish (White-Cast Mitigation), Tear-Free / Won't-Sting Claim
