Renée's Take · Jul 2026
I tested 11 nail polishes from 9 brands across 12 safety checks, including Contains Formaldehyde and Contains Toluene. Every product was scored the same way: material safety first, then real-world performance and ease of use.
What I found: The top picks pass third-party safety verification and hold up in everyday use. The nail polishes I left off had unverified material claims, missing certifications, or hidden tradeoffs that matter day to day.
Here's what came out on top:
The criteria R3 evaluates for every nail polish
Contains Formaldehyde, Contains Toluene, Contains Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP)
Application / Brush Quality, Air-Dry / Cure Time (minutes)
Chip-Free Wear (days), Coats to Full Opacity
