Why I picked this one
“I bought this printer two years ago and I have not thought about ink since. That is the whole pitch. The tanks refill from little bottles instead of cartridges, so we stopped tossing plastic every few weeks and stopped paying $40 for a color cartridge. It handles homework, shipping labels, and the endless field trip forms without complaint. If a friend asked me for one printer to buy and forget about, this is the one I would hand them.”

What makes it a keeper
6 reasons it earns its spot
Up to 2 years of ink in the box
Epson includes enough ink to print up to 7,500 black and 6,000 color pages, which it rates at roughly two years of typical use before a refill.
About a penny a color page
Epson estimates close to 1 cent per color ISO page with EcoTank refill bottles, versus about 20 cents with traditional cartridges.
Print, scan, copy, and fax
A true all-in-one with a 30 sheet auto document feeder, so a stack of forms scans without you babysitting the glass.
An honest note: this is a personal pick, not a full R3 lab review yet
Most R3 products go through our full methodology, where we rate them on safety, efficacy, and usability before we score anything. This printer has not been through the lab. It is here because Renee has lived with it for years and a friend asked her what to buy. We only feature things we would put in our own homes. When it goes through our full review, this page upgrades to the complete scored breakdown, and your link keeps working.
Straight talk
Good to know before you buy
- Best for households that print regularly. The refill ink economics reward families who print homework, labels, and the occasional photo.
- Setup is genuinely easy. Amazon reviewers consistently call out quick first time wireless setup.
- Full size glossy photos print slowly. For documents and everyday color it stays quick.
- Epson recommends its own ink, and third party ink can void the warranty, so budget for genuine EcoTank bottles.
