The CPSC has banned water beads marketed to children. Here's what this means for products you own and safer sensory play alternatives.

Effective January 2026, the CPSC banned water beads marketed to children under 14 due to serious ingestion and aspiration hazards. At least 7,800 ER visits and several deaths have been linked to water beads. Dispose of children's water bead products safely and switch to safer sensory play alternatives.
Search your home for water beads, including sensory bins, Orbeez products, spa products marketed to children, and craft kits.
Immediately remove any water bead products from areas accessible to children under 14.
Place unused water beads in a sealed bag and dispose in regular trash. Do not flush down drains (they expand and cause clogs).
If you suspect your child ingested water beads, watch for vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, or drooling. Seek immediate medical attention - X-rays cannot detect water beads.
