Quick Take
I want to be upfront about something: Olay Regenerist Regenerating Serum contains genuinely effective ingredients. Niacinamide is one of the best-studied actives in skincare, and Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 (Matrixyl) has real science behind its collagen-stimulating claims. But ingredients do not exist in isolation — they exist in a formulation, and this formulation wraps those effective actives in a preservative system that I cannot recommend for families.
DMDM Hydantoin is a formaldehyde-releasing preservative (EWG 6). Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate is an industrial preservative (EWG 5). Polyacrylamide contains residual acrylamide (EWG 10 for acrylamide itself). The original formula contains synthetic fragrance (EWG 8). Every competitor in our comparison has formulated effective products without these ingredients.
