Strong Features, Privacy Trade-Offs
The Amazfit Band 7 delivers impressive specs for $50—18-day battery, true 5 ATM water resistance, AMOLED display, and built-in Alexa. But there's a significant caveat for parents.
What's Great
Outstanding Value At $50, you get features that rival $150+ trackers: gorgeous AMOLED display, 120 sport modes, heart rate monitoring, SpO2, and stress tracking. The 18-day battery life is genuinely impressive.
Truly Swim-Proof 5 ATM rating means real swimming capability—the same as the Garmin at half the price.
Works for Older Kids/Teens While not specifically designed for children, the slim profile and simple interface work well for ages 8+.
The Privacy Problem
*Mozilla rates Amazfit with "Privacy Not Included" for good reason:
- Owned by Huami (now Zepp Health), a Chinese company
- Privacy policy states data may be shared with "Xiaomi or other Mi Ecosystem companies"
- Subject to Chinese "national security requests"
- Xiaomi was caught in 2020 secretly collecting browsing data
For basic step counting, this may not matter. But for biometric data from your child? That's a judgment call.
Who Should Consider This
- Older kids (10+) and teens
- Families where budget trumps privacy concerns
- Users who want advanced features (heart rate, SpO2)
- Those who will use it without the app (limits data transmission)
